HoST Program

Advance Housing, Inc. received McKinney-Vento federal funding in 2005 to implement the HoST Program (Homeless Services Team).  The first three clients moved into individual housing during the summer of 2006.  Eventually the HoST Program will find individual apartments for 17 chronically homeless consumers.

Once an individual is accepted for housing they receive a comprehensive assessment from the HoST team.  An Advance Housing nurse will complete a health assessment after a potential consumer has been accepted into the program in order to determine mental health and medical needs.

A Housing Specialist from Advance Housing’s Affordable Housing Resource Center will then meet with the potential consumer to determine their preference for housing type and location and to initiate an apartment search.  As much as possible, Advance Housing works with the consumer in finding the ideal apartment in the consumer’s preferred area in which to live.   Supportive services will be determined on an individual basis with input from all members of HoST and the consumer.  A comprehensive service approach and a developed network of affiliations with other county human service providers will be utilized so that a resident’s needs may be coordinated and unduplicated.

Volunteer Program

Being a volunteer can be both fun and a truly rewarding experience.  Advance Housing offers an array of volunteer opportunities, including assisting at fund raisers, manning telephones after hours, planting a new garden, and car maintenance, to name just a few of the available opportunities.  If you are interested in volunteering at Advance Housing, please call our volunteer coordinator, Jan Turlick, at 201.498.9140, Ext .221.
